The Certified Phlebotomy Instructor Certification™ (CPI) is geared towards an educator who brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in Phlebotomy practice. The certified individual is considered a subject matter expert with significant teaching experience in Colleges, Training Institutions, Universities, Hospitals, Labs etc.

Certification Overview

Membership fees: CAD 129.00* + TAX

Member Certification fees: CAD 250.00* + TAX

Non-Member Certification fees: CAD 450.00* + TAX

Note: Members who have attained the CPT (CPTG) credential with at least 1 year of work experience can apply for certification after successful completion of a Teaching certificate program or equivalent.

Eligibility

To become certified, you must meet the following conditions:

  1. Must be a graduate from a recognized Post-Secondary Institution in a Medical Discipline with Phlebotomy training.
  2. Be an active member of CPTG in good standing
  3. Have attained license or professional certification within the discipline.
  4. Have successfully completed a Degree or Certificate program in teaching or equivalent.
  5. Have attained the Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) designation.
  6. Have at least 2 years of experience teaching Phlebotomy within the last 5 years in an academic healthcare setting.
  7. Have a minimum of 2 years of work experience with at least 25 venipuncture and 10 finger sticks (will be verified by employer).

Application Process

  • Please download and complete the application form given at the end of this page.
  • Organization verification form will need to be completed by the program manager or program chair of your current employment (form will be provided via email)
  • Please mail the completed application form to our mailing address given at the end of this page.
  • If you choose to send documents via email, please leave payment section blank.
  • After submission, please allow 2-3 business days to process your application.
  • You must provide proof of eligibility for certification to be granted.
  • All supporting documents that prove your eligibility must be Notarized by a Notary public and be mailed along with the application form.

Once your documents are verified, you will receive an email confirming your eligibility for certification.

Credential Earned

The Certified Phlebotomy Instructor Certification™ (CPI) provides assurance to employers and the public of competent, knowledgeable, and skilled Phlebotomy Instructors who meets Canadian Standards. Our certification provides individuals with increased employment opportunities as a CPI.

  • Certification is the process by which CPTG grants recognition of competence to an individual.
  • The CPT credential validates that an individual is certified and has met Canadian standards as well as continuing education requirements in Phlebotomy, successful candidates will be able to display the initial “CPI” after their names.

Maintaining Certification

  • Be a member in good standing with CPTG
  • Submit proof of yearly continuing education
  • For certification to remain valid, members will need to submit their annual fees
  • Certification is valid from January 1st to December 31st each year
